New toolkit

As part of the overarching National Surveillance Camera Strategy from the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, a new Buyers' Toolkit has been developed and launched.

The toolkit has been tailored for non-experts in the use of surveillance technology and well placed to assist small to medium sized enterprises or micro businesses (up to 9 staff), but is beneficial for any organisation considering using surveillance cameras. The toolkit helps to guide people through the process of integrating surveillance systems into an organisation, starting at defining the problem, assessing whether there is a reasonable justification for using surveillance and how to use new systems in accordance with best practice.

Tony Porter said “this guidance will be extremely useful for any organisation thinking about installing a surveillance camera system to really consider if surveillance cameras are needed and if they are giving them the knowledge they need to buy, install and maintain an effective system”.

The toolkit is downloadable from the surveillance camera commissioner website
